Hey Guys, it hasn't been much long since my last review (sort-of), and I really didn't plan to do this but I just have to, because I just went through what seems to be THE BEST Cinematic Experience I've had all year, in form of popular Music writer James Samuel's first Feature Film: The Harder They Fall.
I've pretty much made it clear this review is gonna be quick as it is unplanned and is being written solely because of how stupendously amazing the experience of this movie was.
It tells a revenge tale in a Western setting of a known outlaw named Nat Love in his journey to kill the man who killed his family at a young age, Rufus Buck.
It perfectly captures the aesthetics of a typical western classic reinvigorated to give a truly stunning experience.
The story itself was a trailblazer. Reinventing the usual cathardic revenge setting into its own fun, witty and action packed storytelling.
I loved every minute of this movie, right from the stunningly witty opening sequence at the start, you can already tell this movie is gonna be one hell of a joy ride. And a joyride it truly was.
This movie was aesthetically pleasing and widely engaging in all angles. The characterization was so superfluously and masterfully laid out that literally every character steals your attention and admiration with their antics and sparky dynamics. This cinematic work not only perfectly executed its many fight scenes but had the audacity to creatively nuance them into these playful and hilarious sequences you can't get enough of.
The costume and set designs were also amazing, colourful and stylistic virtues were added to every visual aspect of this movie, making it seemlessly appealing.
The scenery in this movie was superb. Perfectly instigating a Western ambiance with all its lovable elements. The camera work and cinematography was just amazing, every shot in this movie looked so gorgeous that literally every picture being used in this review are from the many screenshots I took from this movie.
The music was pretty much one of the things I loved most about it, the movie was excellently showered with not only the expected western themed music, but also other diversely satisfying tracks that fit every mood being depicted in every scene. I particularly adore the use of Yoruba music from my home country in a setting I never thought it could blend so well with.
The movie was perfectly paced and every act was just as engaging and insane as the others. The actors didn't disappoint at all in backing up such masterful writing. The delivery of every scene was beautiful. Jonathan Majors was a picture perfect main character and Zazie Beats a perfect love interest for him, and they both gave fantastic performances. The other actors did great as well; Lakieth Steinfeld, Regina King and the big bad antagonist Idris Elba gave examplary pictorial representations of cruel yet unapologetically lovable antagonists. I love the unique sense of swagger added to every scene, the comedic flare even in intense moments and it's masterful drifts to dramatic scenery just made the experience that much more impactful.
The Harder They Fall was phenomenal from start to finish, so many great memorable moments, the confrontations and climactic scenes were every bit as unpredictable as they were awesome. The movie practically had everything; Drama, Romance, Comedy, Crime and lots and lots of Action.
Prepare for lots and lots of thrills and surprises in this movie.
I particularly need to acknowledge and appreciate the honour paid to the late cinematic king, Chadwick Boseman in one of the many fantastic sequences of this movie.
This is pretty much my best movie of the year so far and everyone needs to see this exhilarating movie.
James Samuel/The Bullitts deserves all the praise and honorary awards accrue to the maker of a masterpiece; as I see this movie as nothing less than a Modern Classic Western Masterpiece.
It's a huge Win for my favourite Network/Streaming service, Netflix, which seems to be on fire with its productions and releases this second half of the year.
Its phenomenal!!
