Disney's Cruella: An Unexpected Splash of Entertainment

Today I'm gonna be talking about the newest Disney film starring the talented and beloved Emma Stone which dropped this past Friday.

I'm sure if you've been on YouTube or practically any social media platform this year at all as a movie fan you've probably heard of or run into the pre-release info, photos or even the trailer of this movie, or if you're a solid geek, you've probably been anticipating it since it's announcement as it is a Disney movie starring Emma Stone .

Being a pretty hardcore geek myself, I've known about this movie for quite sometime now and to be completely honest, I wasn't anticipating it at all. I knew it was a Disney movie, I knew Emma Stone was the star, but It didn't even seem like something I'd want to watch at all and this was a sentiment shared by a few other fans who've also been continuously disappointed by movies of its assumed nature or have generally lost faith in comedy movies with female leads.

After its release, due to the combined effect of boredom and curiousity, I decided to give this movie a try and Dear God, it surprised me how entertaining and fulfilling this movie is.

The story follows a clever young girl named Estella, who noticed right from a very young age that she was special. She was talented and smart but the "special" being referred to here is the fact that she has a wild side, a side of her more prone to violent and mischievous tendencies than any normal girl her age, which her mother referred to earlier on in this movie as "Cruella". 

After losing her mother, she goes on the run from her mother's killers all the way to London where she mixes up with a bunch of delinquents and follows a life of crime while making an impact in the world of Fashion.

The first act of this movie practically served as a good starting point and a great foundation for the main character's origin story in preparation for all the craziness that comes later.

When I say craziness, I mean it literally and with all the insaneness, this movie was genuinely an exciting and engaging movie. It's a fun filled movie that's guaranteed to keep your eyes fixed to the events on display with the numerous hilarious and surprising scenes. It's a simple story with so many fun characters you can't get enough of due to the great acting and well executed character types.

The one thing I love the most about this movie is the fact that it doesn't take itself too seriously, it was intended to be a comedic fictional origin story that'll take the viewers  on an energetic and fun ride and that's exactly what it presented itself to be. 

For a movie which deeply indulges in the world of Fashion, the amount of effort put into the costume designs was simply amazing. Every costume and presentation put out was just as stunning and radiant as intended to be. 

Another thing I was particularly impressed by in this movie was the use of music. The scores weren't legendary or anything but they were more than sufficient in setting the right atmosphere for the scenes to leave the impact they were intended to which were either comedic or climactic based on the event.

The comedic scenes were hilarious, the shocking scenes hit hard, the overall scenery was good as intended and it was very unnerving just how enjoyable this movie was. 

As I said earlier, this movie is one which doesn't take itself too seriously and that being the movie's strong point could also be seen as the reason it's not anything top tier or perfect.

As it's simply a light themed fictional crime-comedy, some scenes were really unrealistic and the writing of the characters didn't exactly run deeper than their personalities. But the weird thing is that while you're on this rollercoaster of a movie, all these won't seem to matter because although the thematic aspect may be lacking, its everything it aimed to be. Its fun, it's hilarious, it's exciting, it seems immature but that's just the charm of the movie and it's a worthwhile watch to anyone who's looking to have a great time.

I entered this movie having no expectations at all, if fact, me even settling down to watch was really shocking and unexpected, but I ended up being pulled into a 2 hour ride of nonstop entertainment and surprises. I genuinely wish for follow-up releases of this movie from Disney and to get an even greater rush of excitement from them and I recommend this movie to everyone looking for a relaxing comedy to light up their day. People who feel they have a taste for more mature and refined movies would probably not want to give this movie a chance, but I can assure you that if you take the bet of trying out this movie, you'll be shocked by how much you enjoyed it in the end like me.
